Ashtabula

Ashtabula county is located on Lake Erie’s coastline about an hour east of Cleveland, Ohio. The name is an Iroquoian name meaning “river of many fish.” The county is best known for its numerous wineries and covered bridges.

Ashtabula provides a fantastic environment to grow grapes due to the microclimate created by its proximity to the lake. As a result, there are a number of wineries throughout Ashtabula County. Ashtabula also features nineteen covered bridges including the shortest and longest covered bridges in the United States.

Downtown Ashtabula offers shopping, dining and Cornelius Park which often features live music during the summer. Nearby Lakeshore Park offers a beach with lifeguards, a playground, picnic tables, a concession stand and a pond where you can feed the ducks. Ashtabula is a great place to live, work and play!

Cuyahoga

Cuyahoga County is home to the city of Cleveland as well as numerous suburbs. The name meaning crooked river references the greener side of the county which boasts 21 acres of green space. The Cuyahoga River offers recreational amenities notably The Flats which offers dining, shopping and a boardwalk.

Cleveland Metroparks restaurant, Merwin’s Wharf, can be found on the west side of the flats and is a great place to watch the kayakers and cargo ships pass. Chagrin Falls is a village surrounding a beautiful waterfall and provides observation decks, an old fashion popcorn shop and an ice cream parlor all in a quaint town.

Tremont, Ohio City and Little Italy each offer some of the most fabulous restaurants in the county. Westlake and Lyndhurst offer beautiful outside shopping centers with great restaurants, outside seating and entertainment. Every city in the county has something to offer with a terrific restaurant tucked away, a fabulous little park, etc. It is all yours to discover!

Erie

Erie County has a unique location on the shores of Lake Erie midway between Cleveland and Toledo and offers small town living with easy access to both of these major urban areas. Sandusky which is the largest city in the county has one of the finest and best protected harbors on the Great Lakes.

Its location enhances the industrial potential of the area by providing an abundant fresh water supply and access to Great Lakes shipping. Sandusky’s shoreline stretches 22 miles and the City’s relationship to the islands of Lake Erie places it strategically in the heart of vacation land! Sandusky’s Bayfront Corridor, located along downtown Sandusky, has some of the most beautiful public access waterfront in Ohio.

A municipal boat ramp, together with many private marinas and a yacht club, accommodate residents and tourists who enjoy the abundant fishing and boating. Participants from all over North America arrive annually to compete in national sailing events. Cedar Point, known globally for its wide range of thrills, is The Roller Coaster Capital of the World with 17 thrilling roller coasters!

It’s also home to three huge kids’ areas, amazing live shows, the classic beachfront Hotel Breakers, 71 diverse rides and so much more. It’s easy to see why over 3 million people visit America’s Roller Coast each summer! Sandusky is also home to Firelands Regional Medical Center, providing the finest health care services available to the five-county area and representing over 200 physicians and a hospital staff of over 2,000 employees.

Sandusky continues its downtown renaissance as a cultural and recreational destination with quality shopping, dining and entertainment for residents and visitors to enjoy. Geauga

Geauga County boasts rolling hills, natural lakes and ledges that beckon travelers to explore the area’s rich terrain and history. Punderson Manor State Park Lodge in Newbury offers miles of scenic hiking around a 150 acre glacial lake as well as golf and an amazing weekend brunch. Burton is known for its famous locally produced maple syrup and maple products. 

Chardon offers a quaint town square with restaurants and shops and spreads out to more rural areas to offer some hidden gems such as Bass Lake Tavern & Inn which has a charming courtyard patio. Geauga County is also home to the fourth largest Amish community in the world. The Amish are known for a simpler way of life which can be seen with their farms, shops and restaurants. 

The Geauga Park District features twelve parks showcasing hiking trails, nature preserves, fishing, boating and so much more. With over 6000 acres, you can really “get away” and enjoy the beauty this county has to offer!

Lake

Only a 20-45 minute ride from downtown Cleveland, Lake County as its name suggests is known for its water activities. Headlands Beach in Mentor is the largest beach in the state covering a mile, adorned with a lighthouse and offering walking paths, picnic tables, grills, snack bar, restrooms, swings and a nature preserve. 

Fairport Harbor Beach is more intimate with many of the same amenities and features water sports with jet skis, paddle boards and windsurfing. Lake County also boasts waterfront restaurants such as Sunset Harbor Bar & Grille on Lake Erie, Pickle Bills on the Grand River and Trader Jack’s Riverside Grill on the Chagrin River. 

Moving inland, downtown Willoughby is quaint with several restaurants, pubs and shops and is a great place to park the car and stroll. For the wine enthusiasts, Madison is worth the trip with several wineries to tour which offer food, outside seating and entertainment. You will not be disappointed with a visit to Lake County!

Lorain

Nestled between the majestic beaches of Lake Erie and a vast amount of Ohio’s agricultural heartland, Lorain County offers amazing outdoor adventures. Enjoy cycling along the Back Roads and Beaches route in Amherst.

Medina

Medina County is the kind of area that truly has something for everyone. The vast array of festivals, shopping, attractions, historic architecture and eateries make it a special place to visit. One feature that puts Medina County on the national map is its well preserved Victorian architecture. 

The appeal is its ability to retain rich traditions and values, and create events and happenings around these values. Most of the communities within the county have a town square, gazebo and authentic Victorian buildings encircling the square. Strong community effort and commitment have helped to maintain and preserve the beauty of these squares for all to enjoy.

Portage

There’s no shortage of fun, entertainment and hospitality in Portage County. There are many parks in the area and an expansive hike and bike trail system available for sports and recreation lovers. Looking for unique shops for that keepsake souvenir, check out Acorn Alley in downtown Kent. 

Museums and galleries feature displays of local history and the work of local artists. Entertainment venues host local, regional and nationally recognized performers. Live music has long been a centerpiece of the area entertainment scene in Portage County. Located in downtown Kent, Kent State University hosts a wide variety of concerts and events along with the Western Reserve Folk Art Association. 

Many of the area wineries and taverns have live entertainment in the evenings especially on weekends. There are also many nearby theatres and concert halls, including the popular summer venue of Porthouse Theatre. Expand your horizons in Portage County!

Summit

Summit County is home to the city of Akron which is the fifth largest city in the state. Downtown Akron is always in full swing with a wide variety of entertainment offered from jazz bars to free outdoor concerts. The city is also home to the Akron Civic Theatre which is one of only sixteen remaining atmospheric theaters designed by John Eberson in the United States and is an excellent example of the great movie palaces of the 1920s. 

Blossom Music Center is another entertainment venue which is an outdoor amphitheatre located in Cuyahoga Falls that seats 6,051 people in the pavilion and about 15,000 on the lawn and provides a unique venue experience. Northfield offers visitors a chance to try their luck with the horse races and gaming tables at MGM Northfield Park. 

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad provides a relaxing ride through a beautiful park and Cuyahoga Falls features the Mary Campbell Cave which is a sandstone and rock formation that provides visitors the story of a capture by native Americans. Summit County offers a variety of entertainment options!

Trumbull

Trumbull County consists of both urban and rural communities situated roughly between the Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown corridors. It was named after Jonathan Trumbull, Governor of Connecticut, who once owned the land in this region. The county consists of many townships that have town squares that are reminiscent of the village greens found throughout New England. 

Trumbull County is known for its Amish population, the Western Reserve Greenway which is a popular hiking and biking route, antique shops, campgrounds, parks, museums and the Aquarium which features sharks and other saltwater fish as well as the larger cities of Warren and Youngstown which boast many new and historical buildings, shopping and dining.
